To help keep a handle on ALL aspects of your website. Think of the website as a place on the web that has certain departments or categories. This can help you monitor your website results and not get overwhelmed by all the various aspects of the routine operations for your website. Once organized you can even decide to let a company handle certain aspects of your website (SEO, Social Media, etc.) or your whole website, but you’ll know what responsibilities are needed to have an effective online presence and what you are expecting a company or someone on your team to handle effectively.
Here are a few departments or ways to organize your website:
- Administration (Domain Registration, Website Hosting Account, other website products and financial responsibilities.)
- Design (Initial website design, on-going design projects and re-designs, may also include customized graphics.)
- Social Media (Implementing Social Media accounts, maintaining them and analyzing results.)
- Marketing (Google AdWords, Advertising off line and online, using social media and email marketing to “spread the word”.)
- Search Engine Optimization (SEO services and tools to gain your website better ranking is an on-going and time consuming process.)
- eCommerce (Online web store product creation, design and maintenance as well as financial tasks.)
- Site Analytics (Knowing who and when people are visiting your website can be beneficial information especially if you are marketing your site in different ways, you can analyze traffic that corresponds with your marketing campaigns.)
- Maintenance (Plan on changing your site as much as possible and you’ll see the “fruit of labor” with those that come to your site repeatedly know that you routinely change thigns, plus it can help with your SEO rankings as well.)
You can add more departments or combine into sub-categories (i.e. Social Media can go under Marketing for instance). How you organize your site is up to you. Once a site is organized you begin assigning certain content, tasks and goals to each area or department, plus you should find it easier to keep track and to set aside time in your schedule for certain departments. For instance Monday, Wednesday and Friday will be your Social Media days and when that you’ll do a blog posting on Wednesday’s. Friday afternoon you may analyze your SEO and Site Analytics to finish off your work week.
Finally, learn to set goals for yourself. Your first goal may be to break your website into departments or categories. Then you may want to see if you can create a new marketing strategy each month to increase traffic and then at the end of the month check your site analytics, your sales, etc. to see if you met you goals.
Organize your site. You’ll be glad you did.
